This is the dowel pin found between the cylinder head and cam tower on your 944.  there are two of these one on either end of the cylinder head and they hold the cam housing in place

This is the dowel pin found between the cylinder head and engine block. there are two of these per block 1 at the rear and 1 by the front cylinder and they hold the cylinder head in place - stop it from moving around
